Our chance to have a say in the future function of Tynwald

You may have seen reports that Lord Lisvane has been tasked with a review of the functioning of Tynwald. This subject comes up at every election and has generated a lot of debate over the years. Now is our chance to have some input. Members of the public as well as Tynwald have been asked to contribute and I am in the process of preparing a submission. I would welcome your views on such matters as the function of the Legislative Council, whether the Unelected Chamber should sit with the Elected Chamber with an equal vote, how the Legislative Council should be appointed whether they should be involved in the election of the Chief Minister and indeed whether they should be elected by a public mandate and other matters.

There are a lot of different scenarios that have been talked about over the years and if you have any strong views please email me over the next week as Lord Lisvane will be taking oral evidence from 16th–30th May and written submissions by 2nd June.
