A number of UK politicians had been due to attend for the second day but in view of the forth coming UK general election were not in attendance. Consequently we concentrated on sweeping up the discussions that had taken place for a communiqué statement to be issued in due course.
One of the questions I’m always asked is was it worth it? Yes it was a good networking exercise but was also an opportunity to find out how other smaller jurisdictions are dealing with environmental issues. For instance it was interesting to find out that neither Gibraltar, Guernsey or Alderney have sewage treatment plants at present. It also enables us to benchmark our own process.
The meeting finished with a tour by sea around Alderney and interesting adventure through the fast tidal flows, rugged coastline in places and sandy beaches.
